About The Organization

USSEA, founded in 1977, as an affiliate of the International Society for Education Through Art (InSEA) and the National Art Education Association (NAEA), is a national association representing persons working in curriculum development, teaching and research related to art education and cultural differences.

USSEA is a society of art educators who share interests in multicultural and cross-cultural concerns in art education with others in the nation and in the world

USSEA is an organization which promotes greater understanding and respect for learners from all ethnic, minority, and socio-cultural backgrounds.

USSEA provides a network with other art educators in the nation and the world and encourages cross-cultural research and professional relationships.

USSEA organizes business and luncheon meetings and sponsors multicultural and cross-cultural programs at the annual NAEA conference

USSEA publishes three newsletters annually for all members. Submit articles and news items to the Newsletter Editor by

February 1 for March publication
May 1 for June publication
October 1 for November publication

USSEA publishes an annual, refereed journal, titled JOURNAL OF CULTURAL RESEARCH IN ART EDUCATION (Title changed 2001) Old Title: The Journal of Multicultural and Cross-cultural Research in Art Education

Members receive a copy of the journal as part of their USSEA membership. The journal has been printed annually since 1983. Manuscripts for review may be sent to the journal editor. Libraries and individuals may purchase copies of the journal by writing to the USSEA Treasurer. Back issues are also available.

USSEA organizes a children's art exhibit, which is displaced at InSEA World Congresses in various countries. Those wishing to participate should contact the Coordinator of the Child Art Exhibit for information about the type and size of art work as well as submission deadlines.

USSEA provides assistance with child art exchanges between American and foreign art teaches through a program called "CREATE" (Children Relating to Environment in Art through Exchange). Art teachers and museum personnel wishing to participate in such an exchange should contact the Director of the Chil d Art Exchange for more information.

USSEA presents the Edwin Ziegfeld Awards annually to honor one American and one international art educator who have made an outstanding and internationally recognized contribution to art education through exceptional records of achievement in scholarly writing, research, professional service, or community service. Send nominations for the Ziegfeld national and international award to the USSEA Awards Chair.
